Anything Korean....

New Sunday Times, 19 Feb 2012

Arman Ahmad wote a piece on Sophia Suraya Ridza Abduh who studied in Korea from 2003 to 2009. The thing that made her stand out from the hundreds of student who went there to study was the fact that she had spent about 2 1/2 years on one of the most popular variety shows on Korean TV - Chit Chat with Beautiful Ladies.

The show was so well known that it made her a celebrity of some sort. She gave an account of incidences where she was stopped by total strangers and told how they or their parents liked her very much. In one episode, near the end of her stint in the show, she was even proposed!!

One point that strike the patriotic string in me is when she mentioned that Koreans in general looked upon Malaysians rather highly. The older generation there seemed to know "Mokhtar Dahari" a.k.a SuperMokh quite well. For those of you young ones reading this, there was  a time when Malaysia was on par with the Koreans when it comes to football prowess. Now, we are left way way behind.

In these days of K-Pop, Super Junior, SBS and The Running Man, the article by Arman Ahmad is indeed heart-warming and contemporary.
