Question Spotting Anyone?

The Physics paper in SPM 2009 will be on the 3rd of December. As usual, when students come to me for help (or is it me asking them if they need help?)with their physics queries , the inevitable question would be: what questions/topics will come out in the exam?

For the umpteenth time i would tell them that i don't spot questions, but....
there are trial exam questions from other states to look at. Perhaps, one can draw one's prediction on the most likely topic to come out from analysing the exam questions.

I need to remind my students though: don't put too high an expectation on your predictions.
The best strategy would (have been) be covering the various topics thoroughly, then only you can afford the luxury of spotting a few questions. That way, if your predictions go way off the mark, you can always rely on the solid foundation you've laid down since in Form 4.

My eldest son is taking his SPM this year, too. I can just hope he has done his revision meticulously. Only then can I share my predictions with him .....

One Malaysia

First it was muhibbah...bersatu padu...Gongxi Raya, Depa Raya, then one Malaysia. One side of me is sick of this empty rhetorics. The other side manage to rationalise things: what the heck...at least they are talking about uniting Malaysias, unlike most of us. But the sceptics among us just can 't help ridiculing the whole idea or questioning their real intentions.

For some of us, we are the real embodiment of the concept of one Malaysia. We make friends with all races. Perhaps we can't afford massive open houses during festive celebrations but we make do with simple stuffs like visiting friends, respect elders of all races, execising proper road manners while driving and fully tolerate racial and religious differences.

I can only hope those who aspire to align themselves to the concept of One Malaysia have sincere intentions and really show it in their everyday dealings and actions with people of all races.

Koay's Blog

It's nice to see Koay writing in his blog again. Who better to write about physics in Malaysian schools...... For starters, Koay can list down all the errors in popular textbooks and misconceptions among Malaysian Physics teachers. That will keep him going until he formally retires!!

Twit Twit Twit

To twitter or not to Twitter ...that is the question.

I'm still thinking about it. Evidently, people nowadays are into micro blogging - perhaps a short form version of your actual everyday blog. Personally i'm facing difficulties in writing everday in my blog spot. I simply couldn't find enough time.

Come to think of it who cares if i write of don't write in my blog ha hah ha! .....right?

There is one thing i want to know: do people take more seriously when i write a blog or when i post something in my facebook?

Would i enjoy a better following if i write in Twitter?

After the by-election....

Congrats to Salleh Man and Pas for winning the Permatang Pasir by-election.
Even though events before the eventual outcome points out that BN is confident of winning it turns out PAS has again turn the tables on BN.
Why did BN lose?
Nothings change since the so-called political tsunami of the 2008 General Elections. BN in general and UMNO in paraticular still resort to old tactics and strategies. The in-fightings are still there and so is sabotaging party's efforts.
To make things worse the BN started on the wrong foot by getting Rohaizat to represent them. He has quite a few skeletons in the closet which only surface up after the nomination papers were accepted.
If the BN people have done their homework, this shouldn't have happened. Was it so difficult to do a background check on potential candidates?
And this fellow (Rohaizat) for God's sake, can't he come clean by professing that he was disbarred by the Bar Council, has two wives (not that there is anything wrong with having more than one wife) and a few other misdemeanours. Maybe Rohaizat is making full use of the fact that those responsible in doing the selections are imcompetent fools.
Whatever ......... BN has to fully re-invent itself if it hopes to win the next general election. Using old tricks and strategies will not help it's cause at all.

25th August

Folks out there maybe asking: what is so special about the 25th of August 2009.

It's the Permatang pasir by-election...of course!! Rohaizat othman of BN is pitted against Salleh Man of PAS. This is an interesting event to watch during this puasa month. It is difficult to judge the atmosphere over there. Sounds to me it's a little bit low-key from the point i'm sitting. Surely because of Ramadan being the holy month there would be less mud-slinging between the two parties....right? I think i heard somebody said that BN promised a clean fight (puasa lah) but if you rope in the Tok Guru of Kelantan in the 'skirmishes' the fight will be anything but clean

The Umno candidate, Rohaizat is reported to be quite popular with the local ladies. Maybe these ladies can't be bothered with the accusations that Rohaizat is a disbarred lawyer and have two other charges of wrongdoing . Innocent until proven guilty....right?

Hehh.....the guys in SPRM probably don't know that 25th August is also PTK day for some government servants. I hope those taking their PTK exams in Permatang Pasir can focus their minds on passing with flying colours. If you get a "4" , no matter who becomes the next YB, you will still get your salary increment ....deservedly.

Jumpa kawan Part 2

Alamak...i forgot to include some pics in my last posting about "jumpa kawan" So here it is:

I would also like to apologise to friends who may have to wait a bit long for my new postings....busy lah!!

Jumpa kawan

It's a small world ....

Last Thursday, 20th August 2009 I was with a group of Penolong Kanan (Senior Assistants) from secondary schools in the District of Hulu Langat.
We were on a benchmarking trip ...supposedly to learn from the school we're going to visit.
Our first stop was SMK Perimbun ...alahh sorry no photos. They welcome us with splendid performance of foot drill and well-timed moves from the school's Kadet Remaja Sekolah.

The second school was SMK TTDI Jaya, quite close to the Shah Alam Polytechnic. The Pengetua , Rasul was an old friend of mine back in the IAB/Houston days in 1997. They are very proud with their 5S impelementations. For the uninitiated 5S is really a Japanese idea about managing your work place or organization. It's more on the physical side of sprucing the work place and may even complement the 3K programme (kebersihan, keselamatan and kesihatan) that we now have in most schools.

I got to meet former students:
1) Zul, a Kemahiran Hidup teacher (formerly in SM Teknik Kajang, 2005)
and
2) Wardah, a former student at SM Sains Teluk Intan back in 1989.

All in all ...a worthwhile trip ....learn some new things and getting to meet old friends and former students.

Electricity Transmission

Today's Physics class for 5 KM Yakin starts with a revision on transformers and followed by the topic on generation and transmission of electricity.

A video on structure of power cables and maintenance of high voltage power lines was shown during class. I have forgotten to include the likelihood of a new generation of power cables: the superconducting cables.

High temperature superconductors promise to revolutionised power distribution by providing lossless transmission of electrical power. The development of superconductors with critical temperatures close to the boiling point of liquid nitrogen has made the concept of superconducting power lines commercially feasible. However further research has to be carried out in order for this dream to become a reality.

Post H1 N1 blues

Yesterday, was quite hectic.

As in all Monday mornings, we had the school assembly after a one week hiatus of school activities due to the H! N1 epidemic.
It is also common after a long break for students to be a bit dreamy and distracted and they temporarily forgot about the proper etiquette of being in a formal school assembly. They were deservedly rewarded with the punishment of standing throughout the whole one hour assembly by the principal.

Then there was the admin.committee meeting followed by meeting and discussing with teachers and students about future events.

This morning we had a special session where those who were absent on the Friday before the forced break had to sit for all the papers they had missed. We had the test in the school hall (Dewan Sri Gemilang) and about 120 - 130 Forms 4 and 5 students turned up!!

After that was 2 periods of Form 4 Physics and 3 periods of Form 5 Physics. In between the two classes, i had a talk with a male form teacher who does'nt seem to realise the importance of filling in the class register properly. His class register is littered with liquid paper correction marks....which is an absolutely no-no for an official document.

I had lunch around 2.45 pm ...a bit late for some people but "biasa" for a Senior Assistant like me. Next meeting with the Automotive and PPU teachers chaired by the boss (the Principal) which last just before 4.45 pm. I managed to do some multi-tasking task of minuting letters while the boss do his stuff.

Went home about 5 minutes past five pm. Who says a teacher's job is easy....?

Majlis Akad Nikah Part 2

Alamak,

I must have mistakenly press the publish button before finishing my blog. Let me do some corrections and additions here.

The first photo (on top),
Back (L to R): Liza, Iyen and Acik Lilah (Jamilah, Dia's mother)
Front (sitting) Nana and Dia, herself.

Anyway, the akad nikah ceremony will be at 5,00 pm today. I heard that Astro has exclusive right rights to cover the event as well as the other reception at Menara Yayasan Tun Razak, tomorrow night, 2nd August 2009.

Selamat Pengantin Baru, Dia.
From Along and family in Kajang

Majlis Akad Nikah

Today, another relative is getting married. This time it's my cousin Noor Azilla bt Nasaruddin. Her mother, Jamilah and my late mother are sisters...you see. Noor Azilla or "Dia" as she is affectionately refers to, works at Bank Rakyat. You can say "Bapa borek, anak rintik", because the father, Pacik Nasar was formerly working in Bank Negara.

Pict 1: From L to R : Nana, Ikin (Dia's sister), Dia, Izran holding Dila and Nurul.

Dia was one of my late mother's likeable nieces. She (my mother) followed her development and progress from her baby days till she grew into a fine young woman. Another doting niece was Iyen (Roszairin) who is my Mak Utih's youngest daughter. Iyen and Dia are the best of pals and will continue to be, even though Dia is getting married.

Rakan Pergi

Samad. Amin.

A friend, Pn.Aisyah Ithnin who is also a committee member of my schools PTA forwarded to me this reminder:

Petua 8P Ustazah Siti Nurbahyah

Siti Nur Bahyah berkata,
5) Siti Nur Bahyah berkata, P seterusnya mewakili 'persefahaman'

Michael Jackson's New Fan

Michael Jackson may have gone to another world but his spirit lives on.
When news of Michael's death reach us, there were renewed interest in his songs, music, images and videos.
I made it my duty to inform the younger generation on Michael's contributions to the entertainment industry. For example the "Thriller" was the first of its kind - a music video directed by an acclaimed director.
I played Michael's songs from my collection as well as downloaded videos from You-tube. And surprise...surprise my youngest son Farhad seemed to pick it up from there. Not a single day passed without Farhad blaring former hits like "Beat-it" and "You are not alone". He dance along and especially enjoys the Smooth Criminal video ...and mind you he is only five years old.
In the mean time Farhads' brothers and sister has to endure his antics. When the signature tune to the "Beat it" song is heard for the umpteenth time, they quietly moan:
"Ohhhh...not again!!!)

Cuti H1 N1

Birthday

26 Julai 2009 - happy birthday to me !! ha ha ha

As of now, 12.22 pm only 4 people have wished me Happy Birthday:

1) Celcom - the birthday messages started since 2 days ago with promises of free sms's.

2) My wife .....strangely through sms. I didn't hear it directly from her mouth.

3) My good friend Susan, aka financial consultant

4) Radziah ...my 'virtual' sister

Whatever happened to the old fashioned but direct "happy Birthday" darling or ayah or Joned.
I guess i have myself to blame because I (sometimes) ridicule other people who make a fuss about birthdays.

"So you age more year ...what's the big deal!" - i use to say.

Perhaps i'm getting more sentimental over the years ....he he he.
Perhaps " You should do unto others what you want other people to do for you"
Should i start taking other people's birthday seriously?

I have until next year to find out.

Many thanks again to the 4 i've mentioned above. You have made my day!!

I am in a reminiscing mood ......i decided to check on the college where i did my A-levels back in Sept 1979 to Sept 1981. According to Wikipedia, Nene College,Northampton has become the University of Northampton sometime in 2005. Where are my old college mates? Saharuddin, Kamarulzaman, Farid Iskandar Ehsan. I know Abd Rahman is in Bandar Baru Bangi. Noraida who is married to Norsham is somewhere up north .....

I met Noraida a couple of times at LPM meetings. Abd Rahman is married to err...alamak i've forgotten her name, our junior at Nene College. Mary Magdalena Komuji is in JPN Sabah. I asked to meet me at SM Teknik Likas, Kota Kinabalu, when i was there for a working visit back in 2005...i think.

Must try harder to get in touch with my old friends...... i'll try to get some photos in.

You Swine!!! Part 2

After coming back form SM Teknik Sepang with Maznah to pick up 10 students who attended the program Cemerlang Bersama, i met up with Osman, the PK HEM. He told me that it is finally confirmed by the Health Dept people that 3 of our students got the swine flu virus (H1 N1).

At the same time I 've also got word tha Ayu got a baby boy yesterday. Congratulations!!!

Mother and son were advised to balik kampung for Ayu's confinement. We don't want the baby to catch the dreaded "swine flu", do we? All the best to Ayu and baby!!

You Swine!!

Everyday throughout this week, my students have been asking whether they will be able to balik kampong during the coming weekend. I told them I don't know.
"Go ask the PK HEM!! (Senior Assistant in charge of student affairs)" I told them.

This week is also our TEST WEEK. As far as the students are concerned "TEST is not as bad as "EXAM". It's more like a formative assessment. By the time the test started on Wednesday morning we noticed that quite a number of students requested to go to the clinic (government) because they are not feeling well. By thursday morning the hostel wardens informed us a considerable number fell ill and were taken back by their parents.

The boss, En.Ghazaly asked for the health dept personel to come over and do some random test. By then, lots of students weren't feeling well.

Come this morning (Friday), I am beginning to regret giving out the orders to Pah (Exam Sec.) to continue with the test despite dwindling numbers of students. Around noon, we received news that the doctor on duty declared that the situation is quite grave and schhol has to be closed for a week. thus a hastily called gathering was held in our Dewan Sri Gemilang and the boss and the doctor spoke. There was a mixture of gladness and sadness among the students. Glad because they are homesick (for those staying in) and sad because they have to miss their lessons - especially the form 5's.

Orang kahwin

Saya ni kalau majlis orang kawin memang jarang duduk-duduk saja tanpa membuat sebarang kerja. Tapi lain dulu...lain sekarang. Kerja kuat sikit asyik aje sakit-sakit badan dibuatnya.

Ya lah dah nak masuk 48 26 Julai ini. Cuma DG 48 saja belum dapat-dapat lagi. Belum ada rezeki kot.

Slaemat Pengantin Baru Rozaidah dan Abas!!

To Saiful Anuar,
My attempt to publsih my blog on the www failed. Why do they keep on and on asking me to type the mangled letters. I must have done it about 40 times with a few errors in between.

And before i forget... thanks to Pn.Markonah (4246) for assisting us to the Alor Gajah highway.

Saiful Anuar and Rahim stayed back, even though we have finished our task. I learnt this morning Rahim went back to Muar last night ...just in time for malam Jumaat he he he he.

Bismillahirrahman nirrrahim.

Apa khabar kawan-kawan?
